News and Notes: House of Cupcakes reopens after seven-month hiatus

House of Cupcakes has reopened after a hiatus due to a fire that destroyed the store nearly seven months ago, the Times of Trenton reported.

The store is currently being run out of the former Ferry House restaurant next door, and an official awning is expected to be placed by next week. There is now seating for about 40 people, about five times the seating capacity of the restaurant when it was in its former location.

The Ferry House had shut down in 2013 due to financial troubles.

The fire, which displaced 41 residents from neighboring apartments, was caused by a load of cotton towels in a basement dryer and began in a rear basement area of House of Cupcakes.

House of Cupcakes owners Ron and Ruthie Bzdewka won first place in 2011 on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.” Many local residents have expressed their enthusiasm at House of Cupcakes’ reopening.
