The specific strain of meningitis found at Georgetown, serogroup B, was the same type found at Princeton, Drexel University and the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The case at Drexel also proved fatal, when Stephanie Ross died from the disease in March.

An initial email sent out to the Georgetown community denied the cause of Jaime’s death as bacterial meningitis. However, extensive tests ran by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the cause to be meningococcal bacteria.

Antibiotics were given to close acquaintances for precautionary purposes. However, the CDC announced that no further intervention would be necessary unless more cases arise as part of the outbreak.
