Schreiber picked 1st overall in MLL draft

Senior midfielder Tom Schreiber of the men's lacrosse team was the first overall pick in Friday's Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

The two-time first team All-America selection and three-time All-Ivy honoree was picked by the Ohio Machine in the hopes that he can contribute to the team's restructured midfield. He is the second No. 1 pick to have come from Princeton: Ryan Mollett '01 was the first player taken in the inaugural MLL draft in 2001.

Schreiber's classmate and fellow midfielder Nick Fernandez was also drafted. Fernandez, who had 15 ground balls and caused 8 turnovers last season, was selected in the sixth round by the Denver Outlaws.

"I'm very excited," Schreiber said in a statement released by the University. "It's a great honor. There had been a lot of speculation and I just tried to enjoy the process. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to keep playing lacrosse after graduation."

More to come...
