News & Notes: Revalidation hotspots intermittently out of service on Wednesday

TigerCard revalidation hotspots were intermittently out of service for a period of several hours on Wednesday, the last day for students to revalidate their University ID cards after fall break. About 200 students who were unable to revalidate their PUIDs at hotspots were redirected to the Department of Public Safety, where the cards were revalidated at a hotspot in the office, University Spokesperson Martin Mbugua said.

The deadline to revalidate TigerCards was noon on Wednesday, University Housing Services announced to students via e-mail, adding that students would still be able to revalidate after the deadline.

Hotspots around campus were intermittently down between the hours of 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. The entire system was never completely down.

The Office of Information Technology, along with Site Protection, the agency that oversees the operation of the campus keyless locks, are currently investigating possible causes of the outage.

"This appears to be related to the number of people who were using the hotspots. And that is something that is being looked into," Mbugua said.
