Written by Hannah Martins, Staff Writer
Published: Friday, May 14th, 2010
Though he left the University’s physics laboratory 12 years ago, Rush Holt’s connection to Princeton is still critical in his new career — as a congressman.

Employees of the University constitute his top group of campaign contributors, and students ...

    Two observations from this article:

    1) "He’s a research physicist who still has trouble giving a stump speech,” Wasserman explained.
That's for sure. I've never felt more uncomfortable ON BEHALF OF someone giving a talk in public than when I've heard Rush at a public speaking engagement. It's embarrassing and just plain awkward.

    2) "In recent years, Holt has attempted to translate his beliefs into legislation."
The key word there is "attempted"... I'm still waiting for him to ACTUALLY do something.

You're complaining about his stump speech style? "Oh no, he doesn't seem enough like a career politician"?

And the article says what he did DIRECTLY after that part you quoted. "In recent years, Holt has attempted to translate his beliefs into legislation. In 2007 he co-sponsored the Energy Independence and Security Act, which set new efficiency standards for automobiles and federal buildings and increased government funding to biofuel production and alternative-energy research. Last summer, Holt voted for the House’s comprehensive climate change bill. Earlier this month, Holt and fellow New Jersey Democratic representative Frank Pallone introduced a bill aiming to increase the amount of money oil companies must pay toward damages incurred after oil spills.

Holt has also supported increased federal funding of scientific research, which has directly benefitted the University and the PPPL. Last year, the entities received $27 million and $19.4 million, respectively, from research spending in the stimulus bill."

I don't even follow this shit, I'm up at 7:30 because I'm pulling an all nighter. You sound like a political animal though, which annoys me, so I'll ask you: what's your connection to politics?

I hope that the public is not fooled again by overspending Holt, who should be taking the lead to cut the budget, not seek creative ways to confiscate more money from citizens. The biggest crime of all is Holt's vote for the drug pushers bill. This new law will legalize the destruction of the only method left to improve America's health. Holt's law will build up the strength of the drug pushers by forcing everyone to support this failed approach. Holt does not understand the issues and is not capable of taking the lead to fix any problems. You've failed to mention Dave Corsi as the Tea Party candidate in the 12th. Perhaps that is because he would be the the best candidate to beat Holt in November? Mr. Corsi understands small government, is a leader, and has already proven that he can articulate the real needs of NJ Citizens.

How can a Congressman who votes with his party 99% of the time be acting out of free will or conscience? This type of behavior is tearing the country apart. Time for a change.

Right now, NJ is suffering due to excessive government spending and taxing. Many residents have left the state because they "had enough". If this publication is of the idea that all policies and ideas should be considered so that students and voters can render an informed decision, why not include the most qualified candidate in NJ's 12th district, David Corsi?

I have known him for over 20 years and no one in this particular race understands the economic problems better than him.

Please understand what is at stake here. If the reckless economic policies of statist politicians like Holt are not reversed, the situation will be very negative for both Princeton University and for the future of its students (jobs?).

Right now in today's severe economic climate, we need congressman with the backbone to reverse these dangerous economic policies...

    Like David Corsi.

99% of the time seems like a legitimately tested statistic.

I don't want another Wall Street banker representing me.

    Holt consituent

I've heard him speak and agree with what he says. Any issues I've cared enough to check his vote on has always been in line with my wishes. He's my representative and I'm proud of him.

He's a thoughtful man, not a lock-step Democrat as you would paint him.

    Holt constituent #2

Holt is a loser. He votes 99% of the time with his party to increase taxes, increase spending (most of it wasteful) and decrease our liberties. And he's accomplished almost nothing positive for his constituents. He's a laughing stock in DC for constantly co-sponsoring bills that are so extreme they can't even get traction in a Congress controlled by his own party. Time for somebody new and better.

It's amazing that the teabaggers are taken seriously by anyone. And amazing that the same Republicans who turned Bill Clinton's surpluses into record deficits have all had simultaneous epiphanies about the evils of debt. Overall, the Tea Party represents some of the most delusional, idiotic and paranoid segments of American society.

I'd take someone who votes with the Democrats all the time before someone who votes with the Republicans at all.

In response to "Ha Ha 12:38am": If you aren't actually Rush Holt, you're a wonderful example of his supporters, and the Democrat Party generally. You are so full of anger at the American people because we now fully realize the danger of the Democrat tax and spend policies, and we want the Democrats out - particulalry extremists like Holt. So you resort to calling us "teabaggers", "delusional" etc.

The hatred you show towards your fellow Americans smacks of the raciscm of the old south and the policies you support are similarly evil. Its time for Rush Holt and the Democrat Party chokehold on our country to go.

Let the American people breath free again!
