    A libertarian, not an Anscomber.

The University shouldn't be subsidizing birth control to begin with. To do so is to force us all to pay to support acts that many of us consider immoral. The University should not be using our tuition dollars to promote the hook-up culture; they are encouraging students to objectify one another, live a life-style that is conducive to the contraction of STD's, and ignore activities that could actually promote friendship with one another.

This makes no sense; why don't they subsidize the prescriptions that students with legitimate health problems need; instead of subsidizing voluntary and controversial activities?

    um

Wait what? Just because you're on financial aid you should get cheaper birth control? That makes absolutely no sense.

I agree with the libertarian above. Why should we be subsidizing other people's birth control in the first place? Just go to CVS or use a condom.

    Just sayin'

Subsidizing birth control costs less than subsidizing child care.

    fun fact

Birth control is often used for medical situations, like the treatment of endometriosis and PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). It also makes a really painful monthly experience more tolerable for a lot of women. It can also help with acne and migraines. Don't be so quick to judge.

@ Libertarian: Since when is everyone who uses birth control a prototypical slut of the hook up culture? I'm also not a fan of the hook up culture and would hate to think that my money was only going to support that. I also know though that there are people in long term, monogamous, committed relationships that depend on birth control from UHS. And as the commenter fun fact mentioned above, many women depend on it for the treatment of other conditions.

People are going to have sex (in many different kinds of relationships) no matter what you and I think they should or shouldn't be doing. The University should do what it can to prevent the spread of STDs and unwanted pregnancies. It's a health issue.

You can disagree with me on that last point, but don't base your argument the ridiculous assumption that birth control=slut.

I agree with Libertarian. We shouldn't be promoting this type of behavior among people; it's not only abusive to their physical well-being (through STDs and STIs, and the risk of a potential pregnancy), but also detrimental to their mental health as well. Too many of my dear friends have had to seek counseling because of this very behavior. I myself am not affiliated with the Anscombe Society, but this is how I feel.

Uh...STDs, STIs, and risk of potential pregnancies are reasons to make birth control more available, not less.

People are going to have sex no matter what. Why is this so hard to understand? Providing birth control isn't encouraging this sort of behavior, it's just being realistic.

Providing birth control=/=encouraging people to hook up with anyone with a pulse. All it does is encourage people to have safe sex when and if they choose to have it.
