As an avid consumer of pornography, I think this event sounds a bit over-the-top and less constructive than would be a debate or panel discussion sans screening.
Though the idea initially caught Natasha Phidd ’13 off guard, she said that “if the USG is involved, I would assume it would be serious, or at least for a purpose.”
Ah, freshmen so idealistic and full of hope regarding the USG
As an avid non-view of pornography, I agree with '10. The screening is unnecessary, and I think LeTS simply wants to create controversy where one is not necessary.
We don't need to publicly show an abortion to debate abortion, so why do we need to publicly show pornography?
“In addition to these social costs, there are health costs [like] addiction.”
ok, so no porn on campus. let's also get rid of alcohol, energy drinks, and coffee. anything else we could possibly risk getting addicted to? and while we're on that, anything else we could get rid of to save our morals?
thanks for keeping it real, shivani.
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE
I'm 21. I've watched porn since I was 11. Over the years, I've also watched lots of interviews, documentaries, and behind-the-screens specials with porn stars, porn directors, and the like. It's all been very interesting, and it certainly is a hobby of mine, but I still think this is money that would be better wasted on some uncontroversial.
Btw, Shivani... health costs? What do you mean by that? Hairy palms? Excessive napping?
**money that would be better wasted on something uncontroversial
dude projects board/usg basically funds every event that student groups hold. are people suggesting they institute some sort of morality litmus test? the event in question is perfectly legal. if you don't like it, don't attend.
yale does it much much better....

We don't have enough money for better toilet paper, but we are paying $1500 to screen porn?? I'll give them my videobox subscription info for some double ply!
