I agree with the spirit of this article. Yet, suggesting that the university should offer some sort of orientation at the beginning of the year for financial aid students to publicize funding opportunities seems unnecessary. I'm on financial aid and knew, by the time I got on campus as a freshman, that I could waive my expected "summer savings" and get money back. How? Through searching the website. The same goes for summer opportunities. If you don't know how to perform an internet search by the time you get to Princeton you have a fair amount to worry about beyond finincial aid.
Why don't we just allow all students to print their tuition up? That way, they'll pay off their debt and the school will have lots of new money for its expenses. What a stimulus!!
"There are even sources of funding for students with financial need to participate in dues-based extracurricular activities or trips: For these students, the Vice President of Student Life’s website lists a multitude of entities that will provide funding for extra expenses, including those associated with extracurricular activities and events."
wow, I never knew about this and it definitely would have helped as an undergrad! the summer savings waver I knew about and is really not hard to learn about--I don't remember even having to seek out that info, and they are very generous with giving it.
