Four male students have been charged with criminal attempted theft, criminal mischief and resisting arrest by flight after they allegedly tried to steal a parking meter on Prospect Avenue on Oct. 26.

The four men — Gustav Rydevik ’13 of Old Greenwich, Conn.; Turner Smith ’13 of Rye, N.Y.; Ian Silveira ’12 of Ambler, Pa.; and Alexander Taaffe ’13 of Sarasota, Fla. — were later released on their own recognizance.

Borough Police reported  that officers caught the four students trying to remove a meter and its mounting pole, worth an estimated $658, from just outside Ivy Club at 1:08 a.m. When the police arrived, the four 18-year-olds scattered.

Following a brief foot chase, Smith was arrested by Patrolman Daniel Federico in Lot 26, and Silveira was apprehended by Patrolman Chris Tash in the Frist Campus Center driveway, Borough Police said. Rydevik and Taaffe were arrested at police headquarters roughly two hours later.
