Why are the exact numbers given for every single person? I mean come on, it is pretty depressing to know that only 36 people voted for you (and that you got 6th place).
@2011. Although I feel sorry for those poor fellows, it's probably good to have a little transparency given a certain little tendency that USG elections have had.
The concern about hurting feelings by releasing vote counts is a valid one, but one that cannot be satisfied without compromising significantly on the audibility and security of the elections. We made this decision to release vote counts very deliberately and after a good deal of research and consultation.
Releasing all numbers to the public is absolutely critical not just to transparency but to overall security and verifiability. Had the numbers been released last winter for the 2012 senate election, it would have been obvious that the error had occurred at that time rather than finding out that the system failed to tally votes for two candidates during an audit months later.
We've been working diligently on improving elections, and I've consulted a range of experts on this and many other topics, all of whom concur: release all vote counts. Rather than just relying on the elections managers to interpret the results and tell you who won, now you get to double check their work, too.
If you'd like to learn more about how we came to this decision or some of the other important decisions regarding election reform, please check out the election reform blog that I've been keeping:

The August 4th post addresses this issue of releasing vote counts in particular. Look for the section titled "Advice from the Expert: Dr. Ed Felten."
I thought Addie Darling resigned ?
She did. She will formally resign after this elections period.
Unless it is meant as a prediction of future electoral triumphs, the third-paragraph reference to Beecher as USG President is incorrect. He is at present only the president of '13.
Ah, another president stock full of bullshit comes to once more accomplish nothing!
Just don't pull an Ashton Miller and flunk out for a semester because you think they wouldn't fail the class president.
You disgust me.
@'12 - low blow. You shouldn't have brought that up.
@@'12. It's kinda true.
