The University will not participate in the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs’ (VA) new Yellow Ribbon Program to partially waive tuition for veterans, University spokeswoman Cass Cliatt ’96 said Friday.
Under the new program, which is tied to ...

Seems politically motivated to me, to placate the University's liberal military-skeptic associates. Ironic considering the high enlistment rate of Princeton students during the two world wars.
This is nothing short of offensive. How on earth can we profess to be in the NATION'S SERVICE if we don't participate in this program? Shirley Tilghman and Cass Cliatt need to open their eyes next time they're walking into Nassau Hall - somehow I think that the men whose names grace its walls wouldn't be pleased about this.
The point is that we already have plenty of money for Veterans and don't need to steal from the government. Columbia and Dartmouth are poor and still have programs where they cannot take people who cannot afford to pay.
I sincerely doubt any Veteran will have difficulty attending Princeton, Princeton is "need blind" and has the highest endowment per student of any university in the world, ever. Please read the subtext on this underwhelming piece of journalism before starting the "Princeton hates the military" rant.
In the Nation's Service, my rear end. When Michelle Obama was here, her bio says that her main activity was the Third World Center. She also said during the campaign that "she was never proud to be an American, until her husband was nominated for President."
The men and women returning to civilian life have had none of the fruits of the system in the US that Michelle had, and yet there can't be a one of them that hasn't been proud to be Americans for their entire lives.
Sure, the administration can say that needs blind admission makes it unnecessary to prticipate in the Yellow Ribbon program.
However, the chance that any of these heros will make it through the admission process is incredibly remote.
Military recruiters are banned from the campus, the returning veterans might as well be.
Princeton should be ashamed. Stop hiding behind the need blind admission! Returning veterans deserve all the help they can get. Its because of them you can go to sleep at night President Tilghman. What an awful decision!
I wonder who you're quoting... her, or one of Rush Limbaugh's acolytes (if not the Devil himself), lol...
You guys kill me, really...
I hate how ppl think that if you dont bend over backwards for goons with guns that somehow you're "unpatriotic." it's OKAY to NOT support soldiers.
Participation sends not only the proper message, but it's the right thing to do for the veterans. Forget about how this might promote or inhibit anybody's political agenda. BTW, you Princetonians should be very proud of your university's need-blind policies.
@10
I truly believe that you are wrong in saying that "it's OKAY to NOT support soldiers." It's fine to disagree with the country's use of the military or specific military strategies. But to not support people who are simply going where they are told and doing what they are told for the sake of all citizens is simply unfair to them.
Oh, and thanks for calling my father, uncle, and both grandfathers "goons with guns." That's such a nice sentiment. You disgust me.
The next time you are in Nassau Hall, take a look at the names inscribed in the main lobby.
Those that died for the Union cause did so, so that our country would remain a union. If it were not for these "goons with guns", slavery would still have been an abomination for many more years, than was the case.
It was "goons with guns" that freed the holocaust survivors from the Nazi death camps, and brought an end to Nazi Germany.
It was a series of "goons with guns" , throughout our history that give us the freedom to make statements that we believe in today, without fear of repression.
Most of the Princeton undergrads after 1945, were "goons with guns" that served in WWII, and attended Princeton on the GI Bill. The University takes justifiable pride in those like George Schultz, who made major contributions, "in the nation's service,"
Those that don't want to "support soldiers" now, won't have to be bothered with them at Princeton. They won't be admitted, and we will be worse off for losing the real diversity that we could get from knowing these heros.
It's our loss, they will do just fine elsewhere.
