They put an extra 1700 bucks in there so that CDY could redecorate his office? Glad to know you're doing the students' business, Connor.
“The fund that the USG is endowed from is one of the last things the [University Board of Trustees] can cut in times of financial straits,” USG treasurer Trevor Martin ’11 said Tuesday. “It’s up there with financial aid.”
Really? Like, is this supposed to be fact (i.e. the actual fund is restricted just like certain financial funds) dressed up as really bad hyperbole? Or the other way around?
While I agree with '10 that this just looks bad, it might be helpful for both the USG and the Prince to be more specific about what exactly needs to be renovated. It's not like you're buying some office supplies. If you're dropping $1700 (easily the cost of 2-3 medium-size study breaks for the student body, funding for 1-2 student group events, etc.), I think the student body deserves to know what you're spending it on. And, if it's for getting a new computer/printer or chairs/furniture because the ones in the USG office are getting old/too beat up, then sure, that's cool. Just don't gloss over it by just saying 'renovations'
Oh yeah, it makes perfect sense for them to cut funding for nearly every other worthwhile endeavor, including the PACE Center, SVC, and even classes, but the USG needs to keep its funds to throw wasteful study breaks and give away free scarves at all of our expense...
Did no one on the USG stand up for the students when they announced they are wasting our money? This is embarrassing.
Proposition: Disband the USG and return the $160,000 and the Lawnparties funds to the students for their own use.
Wait, really? The University is under a salary freeze, and Connor gets 1700 bucks to fix up his office? Wouldn't it be better if he donated that to the staff who works so hard to clean up after us?
Preparing USG for real world politics. Oink oink oink.
Also, look at the correction-- the USG treasurer doesn't know where the funds come from? This Administration is a disaster-- even more so than the last one.
