Men view half-naked women as objects, study finds
Published: Tuesday, February 17th, 2009
Some men may view scantily clad women as objects rather than as people, a recent study found. The research, conducted by Princeton psychology professor Susan Fiske, Mina Cikara GS and Stanford psychology professor Jennifer Eberhardt, was performed on 21 undergraduate ...(back to the article)

In all seriousness, I'm curious, if we see half-naked women as objects, how do we see completely exposed/naked women? Maybe there's a psychological difference.
duh!
this article has so many hilarious lines. also, who's being sexist now, implying that construction sites are male domains
It took a STUDY by people with PhDs to determine this? Good grief.
It's odd to me that the reaction of of males to a partially nude woman could be considered "dehumanizing". Perhaps these researchers simply need to reassess what it means to be human. In studying the human animal one must keep in mind that not all of the data will comply in a positive sense with society's morals. If one wishes to imply that it is society itself which is causing this reaction in men (which I highly doubt) then a study properly controlled to test this would be required.
I was thinking the same thing, GS'Biology.
I agree wholeheartedly with the anonymous poster (8:48 AM). I can't imagine anyone being surprised by the results of this study and find it hilarious that Prof. Fiske found the hypothesis to be disgusting.
Men are pigs
How about gay men? I probably view half-naked guys as objects as well.
I like the part about “things you manipulate with your hands”. I can think of one “thing” that I would “manipulate” with my hands when viewing “photos of half-naked women”. Besides; what’s so dehumanizing about the desire to have sex??
They “predicted these results” that the “tool-use part of the brain” is activated; really? So, let me get this right; if I look at pictures of half-naked women should I be thinking of using my drill, my penis or both? Is my penis simply just a tool (I think not!)?? What about fully naked women; will that completely mess me up? And, what’s with the “that’s disgusting”? Why? Humans and whales are the only species that have sex for fun...
Keep up the great research!
