actually, the main reason for the seemingly heedless surge at 11am is that people are trying to get from Frist to Friend in 5 minutes after their last class got out late.
Last I heard, that footbridge across Washington was going to be uncovered - meaning that in the winter it will be exposed to the elements and become icy and treacherous to use. I agree with the author that while in theory a good idea, in practice it won't make a difference.
Crossing the street to terrace is dangerous
I think a major factor here is that many motorists (particularly those from out of town--of whom there are many in Princeton) are completely unaware that they are supposed to yield to pedestrians on those crosswalks on Nassau Street. Near one, there is a very discreet "yield to pedestrians" sign at about the level of the light bulb of the lamppost but there is very little signage at a level where motorists might actually see it.
Thank you for raising awareness about the idea to tunnel Washington road that has been floating around campus for a decade. Creating an unencumbered pedestrian realm from University Place to the E-Quad is, in my opinion, a vital move to ensure that campus east of Washington road ceases to feel like a far-away sterile place that we just go for classes and nothing else. Tunnel it, or just get rid of the roads!
I'm actually kind of surprised that I graduated and didn't die on Washington Rd.
why do alums read the prince?
They'll just salt it like they salt anything else.
Great article, Princeton drivers are horrible! there isn't one moment when you are safe on nassau, because turning cars literally don't yield. I thought this was supposed to be an upscale community, where are all the drag racing kids from!
Sometimes, I try to get cars on Wash. Rd. to hit me so that I can collect a settlement. All the better if they're Boro police cars.
