Physics professor William Happer GS ’64 has some tough words for scientists who believe that carbon dioxide is causing global warming.

I believe it's "ExxonMobil".
WHAT!! How is this coming from a Princeton prof.? Likening GLOBAL WARMING to THE JEWS ARE THE SCUM OF THE EARTH? Is this guy on acid?! Global warming is a SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN natural phenomenon. Or even if he disagrees with the science, likening this to claims of social prejudice doesn't even make sense. Geez, I'm paying 40,000 dollars a year to help support this so called "professor"?
no '09, your parents are paying $40,000 a year.
"WHAT!! How is this coming from a Princeton prof.?"
OMG, How dare someone question the liberal establishment.
"Global warming is a SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN natural phenomenon."
I guess that's why they have to call it "Climate Change". The real reason for all this "science" is because liberals want to stop America from using more than its "fair" share of resources (with them determining what's "fair"). And the only way to do that is with One World Government.
Yaaaay. Finally someone from Princeton joining the growing (and courageous) group of scientists worldwide condemning the politicized climate change hype.
Why aren't I surprised that a physics professor from an Ivy League school doesn't understand the physics of CO2 and global warming: The science of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere serving as a greenhouse gas was well established by Svante Arrhenius in 1896, so there is no valid argument that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere does not cause global warming.
Here is what Climate Code Red says:
--Human emissions have so far produced a global average temperature increase of 0.8 degree C.
--There is another 0.6 degree C. to come due to "thermal inertia", or lags in the system, taking the total long-term global warming induced by human emissions so far to 1.4 degree C.
--If human total emissions continue as they are to 2030 (and don't increase 60% as projected) this would likely add more than 0.4 degrees C. to the system in the next two decades, taking the long-term effect by 2030 to at least 1.7 degrees C. (A 0.3 degree C. increase is predicted for the period 2004-2014 alone by Smith, Cusack et al, 2007).
--Then add the 0.3 degree C. albedo flip effect from the now imminent loss of the Arctic sea ice, and the rise in the system by 2030 is at least 2 degree. C, assuming very optimistically that emissions don't increase at all above their present annual rate! When we consider the potential permafrost releases and the effect of carbon sinks losing capacity, we are on the road to a hellish future, not for what we will do, but WHAT WE HAVE ALREADY DONE.
By the way, I am very disappointed that more people don't do the math concerning global warming and rapidly rising record high temperatures, and arrive at the shocking conclusion Dr Lovelock has:
"Few seem to realise that the present IPCC models predict almost unanimously that by 2040 the average summer in Europe will be as hot as the summer of 2003 when over 30,000 died from heat. By then we may cool ourselves with air conditioning and learn to live in a climate no worse than that of Baghdad now. But without extensive irrigation the plants will die and both farming and natural ecosystems will be replaced by scrub and desert. What will there be to eat? The same dire changes will affect the rest of the world and I can envisage Americans migrating into Canada and the Chinese into Siberia but there may be little food for any of them." --Dr James Lovelock's lecture to the Royal Society, 29 Oct. '07
Brad Arnold - Please provide an up to date, engineering quality refutation of the professor's stand.
Nothing from the 19th or early 20th centuries.
Billions of dollars have been spent this century alone on climate science. Where is the "CO2 causes warming" evidence?
Please, also, point to the evidence that we are suffering "rapidly rising record high temperatures". Same criteria.
No computer projection fantasy. No "opinions" from hysterical quarters or purveyors of books or those invested in wind power etc. Just some relevant current science to show for our taxes. Please.
"Few seem to realise that the present IPCC models predict almost unanimously that by 2040 the average summer in Europe will be as hot as the summer of 2003 when over 30,000 died from heat."
The code in these computer "models" is based on the assumption that CO2 is "bad" and causes "global warming", so these computer "models" are not evidence that CO2 is "bad" and causes "global warming".
who cares? he's entitled to his own opinion. i could go around believing rain is caused by people praying to the clouds and nothing would happen to me
Thank You Professor. You and thousands of other true scientists are proof Al Gore lied about a "consensus".
1. CO2 is only 0.038% of the atmosphere and only 3% of that is anthropogenic.
2. Natural Water Vapour causes 95% of the greenhouse effect
3. 12,000 years ago my country Canada, was covered in ice several miles thick. It melted naturally with no help from human activity.
4. The Eemian Interglacial - 125,000 years ago - was much hotter that todays Holocene interglacial. CO2 was skyrocketing as well. Modern man was not here yet but if we were some Al Gore type would have been blaming "human activity". Most climate alarmists are so poorly educated they never even heard of the Holocene or Eemian, and therefore they have no academic basis for trying to express an intelligent opinion.
5. All interglacials, including today's Holocene, come to an end and we return to an ice age. This is due very soon.
6. Ice caps are growing, and sea level is dropping. Here is the peer reviewed scientific proof: http://www.cpom.org/research/djw-ptrsa364.pdf
7. Enjoy the warm while you can, and don't be fooled by a lawyer turned politician who "invented the internet."
8. Best wishes for 2009
9. The sun is losing power and this is going to be a long term trend. See: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/23sep_s...
