Everyone affiliated with Princeton should care. A convicted drug dealer escaped from jail and was running loose in Jersey, and our campus police still aren't properly equipped to deal with situations like this. The issue of arming P-Safety isn't going away. Violent crime in the area certainly isn't decreasing, and the Borough is now looking at making serious cuts in the local police budget, which will effect their staffing levels and resultantly their response times. By not arming our Public Safety Police Officers, the administration is gambling with the safety of the Princeton community.

Don't confuse drug dealing with a violent crime. The Princeton community was hardly put in danger by this guy hanging out with his girlfriend in a hotel room. And arming P-Safe officers? Dealing with townies skateboarding, lockouts, and drunk kids does not merit a weapon. They have the potential to do far more harm than good.

The cuts to the police budget won't make much of a difference, because there are currently three officers who are suspended with pay, meaning taxpayer's money is being given to the officers while they sit at home for months while the pending disciplinary case proceeds.
