USG president Josh Weinstein ’09 publicly endorsed vice presidential candidate Michael Weinberg ’11 early this morning in an e-mail to many of Weinstein’s supporters from his own campaign.
In the e-mail, sent at 1 a.m., Weinstein said he ...

Maria, aren't you an elected official? Didn't you endorse Nick BEFORE Josh endorsed Weinberg? Pot, Kettle?
As a Jew, I have to say that I am ashamed at this blatant display of nepotism.
Wait, so, endorsing someone because they are your friend is OK, but endorsing someone because they are your friend and in a fraternity with you is not? What?
Whoever is posing as '09 is clearny NOT a Jew, and as a real Jew I think the Daily Princetonian should take down this display of harassment.
Inter-racial interaction as nepotism? So if Cornel West tells one of his African American students good job on a paper, that's "nepotism"? It would be nepotism of Weinberg was weinstein's SON! Or are you making a reference, belied by your introduction, to their membership of a fraternity? In which case the USG, Daily Princetonian, and many other campus groups DEFINITELY create situations in which inter- greek affiliation is encouraged.
The only people that Maria - as far as I know - is referring to with regard to 'other USG officials' are Alec Williams and Jacob Candelaria - both in St. A's - and Cindy Hong - Maria's best friend. All three are publicly supporting Nick - including two as endorsements on Nick's Facebook Group and website. Nick was the first mover on the endorsements, so I don't understand his political doublespeak. It is of interest the relationship between Weinstein and Diemand-Yauman though, I thought they were friends - looks like CDY wants to stay out - I would too.
Why do people even get worked up about this? It's the USG, people....chill out.
As for nepotism, I think there is a point here apart from recognizing that Weinstein/Weinberg may insinuate some ethnic ties here....frats usually do stick to their own from here on campus to employment in the real world. No big surprise.
I don't understand the comparison between USG officials endorsing their friends and the PRESIDENT endorsing someone (friend or frat brother or whatever). The argument is that as a sitting president, you have a lot of power and your endorsement could sway people who don't know the candidates that well and just think "well if the president likes this guy, then why not?" -- and that is what is being argued as inappropriate here.
For those that are defending Weinstein's actions, breaking with precedent and endorsing his AEPi little sib might be a remotely acceptable but isn't implicating that CDY is also endorsing someone even when CDY has made an active decision to stay out just sleazy...
Why is USG Vice President allowed to endorse a candidate but USG President cannot? Why can U-Council chair Maria Salciccioli publicly state support for a candidate? Prince--shouldn't that have been disclosed in this article when you quoted her?!
Furthermore, why is it seen as a poor decision when a member of a fraternity supports a friend, but a member of St. A's is not noted for the same alleigiance? Must we continue this "secret" attitude towards this group?
At least aepi membership is pretty well known. Nick, along with Jacob Candelaria, are in a secret cult known as St. A's. Ridiculous.
