With fewer than 40 members in attendance, the University faculty approved a graduate program in quantitative and computational biology at its meeting Monday.

The proposal for the program stated that “[t]he Program of Computational Biology is intended to facilitate graduate education at Princeton at the interface of biology and the more quantitative sciences and computation.” The program will offer Ph.D. degrees.

Curriculum changes in the Graduate School were also announced at the meeting. In addition to new classes in quantitative and computational biology, graduate classes were added in computer science, geosciences, history, molecular biology, neuroscience, philosophy and sociology.

The faculty also approved the academic calendar for the 2012-13 year, which differs only slightly from the current calendar.

Those who attended the meeting also voted to cancel the faculty meeting in January. “It is our custom to cancel our meeting in October and January,” President Tilghman said.
