    Hmm

Now, if only I could get graduate housing then, perhaps, I could take advantage of this!

Oh don't worry the University will be expanding graduate enrollment and reducing on campus graduate housing...that should cure the housing problem. Maybe we can get some of the trailers that are being used for Katrina victims.

    Thankful

We do need to keep up on the housing issue --- but for now, we owe a debt of gratitude to our GSG reps like Twitty for representing grad student interests.

Major thanks to The Prince for taking the time to learn about this issue and provide such a thorough report. The shuttle system that will be implemented in January 2009 is not perfect, but it IS significantly better than the system the University proposed early in 2008. Kim Jackson has been very patient and willing to meet with us, and the GSG really does believe we have obtained substantial improvements over the current system, even though we have to sacrifice the simplicity and ease of the Green Line.

It should also be noted that Jeff Dwoskin, Kevin Collins, and Hilary Bergsieker, the three members of the GSG's Parking and Transportation Committee deserve the vast majority of the credit. They've sat through many hours of meetings and spent a huge amount of time devising and compiling survey data.

    No improvement, no thanks, GSG

Wait, so the biggest clusterfuck in the previous plan -- the requirement to transfer buses between GC/Lawrence and central campus -- remains intact, and now we've also subtracted nighttime service to Butler? This is better for graduate students how, exactly?

    Oops

My apologies for the previous comment's confusion: the Prince's muddled and circumlocutory article and the fact that the new Forrestal line's map was displayed as the first attached image confused me. Now that I've clicked through all the pictures I see that the new plan has removed the requirement to transfer lines between Lawrence/GC and central campus locations, so the major problem has been fixed. The introduction of smaller new problems like no nighttime Butler service is still unfortunate, but this isn't the catastrophe it looked like at first glance.

Residents of Butler Apartments need not be alarmed. The Prince made a mistake saying that Butler will not be served after 9pm. The East line will connect Butler Apartments (and Lot 21) to campus from 5:00am-11:30pm on weekdays. Also from 9pm-3am the on-demand service will provide service connecting Butler to campus and to other graduate housing. The concern is that Butler residents will have to transfer shuttles to get to other graduate housing _before_ 9pm.
