Goodell: Americans ignorant of nation's coal dependency

My mother, who died last Nov, was a coal miner's daughter from Mingo County, W. Virginia, so I have always been conscious of my Appalachian heritage.
Greenhouse gas emissions are one issue; an equally important issue is the mining of coal via mountaintop removal. This is an ecological nightmare - the state of W. Va. (aided and abetted by the Federal courts) s)is literally cannibalizing itself for short-term coal profits. And we thought strip-mining was bad - hah!!
Oh, and by the way, large parts of the state of Wyoming are being torn up for coal, too.
Is it worth it? I don't think so.
If a concern is CO2, then the interim solution is simple. Nuclear power. I definitely agree with the speaker (and disagree with Gore) -- capturing carbon from coal plants is currently very inefficient.
