There are several points in this letter than I would like to address, but I simply don't have time to do it. I must take issue with the statement that PUB is blameless because it didn't understand the Citadel. I believe PUB understood the Citadel well enough to know that it was acting provocatively and with the intent of eliciting a reaction from the Corps. One need not look any further than the back of the shirt worn by PUB's president during the confrontation on campus. It featured a cross out Confederate flag. It is clear that Mr. Barnard understood how that particular graphic would be received at a school whose cadets fired the first shots of the Civil War, in a city where the secessionist movement began.

I will not defend the indefensible acts of certain cadets who committed criminal acts such as theft, property damage and assault; however, the PUB must accept its share of responsibility for the confrontation.
