Why exactly do the editors of the Prince feel the need to print articles like this one comparing Princeton to Harvard and Yale in every possible dimension? If it's not test scores, endowments, or admission yields, it's about some other silly little thing, like how "green" the campus has become. It just reeks of an inferiority complex that dominates Princeton's self-image. I'm not saying it's not newsworthy, but these sorts of articles have been so common over the years.

I find this article informative and important. If we want to be a leader in climate policy on campus just like our professors and students are leaders in climate scholarship, then we have to know how we compare to our peers. The fact that Harvard and Yale are ahead makes me, as an alumnus who cares deeply about climate and energy policy, want to help my alma mater take further strides to achieve climate responsibility.

Just like rivalries in any sport or business, friendly competition can inspire all of us to achieve greater results. And there's no bigger challenge our world faces to focus our dedicated attention on. Kudos to students involved in SURGE, Greening Princeton and other groups working on climate progress. And congrats to the staff at our new Sustainability Office to get us a high score in the sustainability index. I hope alumni can contribute to make Princeton a top-notch leader in sustainability, equal to or better than our peers over in New England :)

Thanks for the article, and here's to further emissions reduction endeavors from efficiency to wind and solar farms to provide Princeton's energy needs.

Onwards to a sustainable energy transition,
