Why argueing so much with these bunch of kids who only like to be spoonfed by Dalai Liar. They are only the foot-soldiers on bandwagen of neo-con's geopolitical agenda. No matter what China do, it will never please the West. To save time, one document as follows should be enough, the full text of the Dalai's 1951 telegram to Mao, a fat for the fools to swollow: "Chairman Mao of the Central People's Government: This year the local government of Tibet sent five delegates with full authority headed by Kaloon Ngapoi to Beijing in late April 1951 to conduct peace talks with delegates with full authority appointed by the Central People's Government. On the basis of friendship, delegates on both sides concluded the Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet on May 23,1951. The local government of Tibet as well as the Tibetan monks and laymen unanimously support this agreement, and under the leadership of Chairman Mao and the Central People's Government, will actively assist the People's Liberation Army in Tibet to consolidate national defence, drive imperialist influences out of Tibet and safeguard the unification of the territory and the sovereignty of the motherland. I hereby send this cable to inform you of this. “

@Anikulapo: Yes, that is precisely the point. If the Chinese government or those students who are loyal to the Chinese government believe they deserve unbiased media coverage then the Chinese government should not suppress journalistic freedom.

[Having heard from the scorpion Pine at the FBI Building in Washington, D.C., it is only fair to represent the Chinese government's newspaper stance on the subject of religious freedom in China.] 'Tibet issue' is by no means a religious issue The Dalai clique has been drumming for the international concerns over the so-called 'Tibet issue', and manipulated the foreign opinion by playing the card of religion and claiming 'Tibetans are in shortage of religious freedom. In actuality, however, it is a ruse clad in the disguise of religion, as Thiru N.Ram, the editor-in-chief of the Indian newspaper The Hindu, was quoted as saying, 'the accusations of China by the Dalai clique are contradicting the facts'. ¶ As a matter of fact, Tibet's religious development conforms to its social development and reality. It is estimated that Tibet currently boasts 1,700 monasteries and temples, with 46,000 monks and nuns; in addition, it has 4 Mosques and 1 Catholic Church. The normal religious activities of the Tibetan people are always fully respected and guaranteed. The establishment of the institute is a pioneering undertaking in the history of Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism is a profound theology, the understanding of which requires many years of dedicated study. The Higher Institute of Tibetan Buddhism represents an innovation in the educational system in Tibet, and by offering degrees and attracting the most gifted students, it will further promote the unique spiritual legacy and meaning of Tibetan Buddhism. ¶ On top of that, prayer wheels and reverential believers can be seen everywhere in Tibetan-inhabited areas. The Tibetan Buddhism has become an important ideological prop for people there. Each year, there are millions of Tibetans trekking to Lhasa for pilgrimage. ¶ The state respects and safeguards the rights of the Tibetans and other ethnic groups in Tibet to live their lives and conduct social activities in accordance with their traditional customs, and their freedoms to engage in normal religious activities and major religious and folk festival celebrations. ¶ There are many traditional festivals and fairs in Tibet, including the Tibetan New Year, Sakadawa Festival, Ongkor (Bumper Harvest) Festival, Shoton (Yogurt) Festival, just to name a few. In the past two decades, the state has invested up to 700 min yuan in the repair and maintenance of monasteries and temples, religion-related cultural relics and historical sites. The Potala Palace, the Norbulingka and Sakya Monastery have been well preserved. Ancient documents and archives have also been rescued and are well protected today. ¶ The religious beliefs of Tibetan religious followers can enjoy full respect and protection, and the fine aspects of traditional Tibetan culture have been carefully preserved and carried forward. Compared with the old days in Tibet, when religious belief was compulsory, and Tibetan Buddhism was the only religion accessible to and permissible for the public, Tibet's religious culture today is no longer monopolized by Tibetan Buddhism, instead, other ancient Buddhist sects, such as the oldest religion Bon, also thrive with Tibetan Buddhism still being the dominant religion. ¶ It is evident to show that the so-called 'religious issue' in Tibet is nothing but a pretext made by the Dalai clique in an attempt to win over some sympathetic support. The true essence of the alleged 'Tibet issue' is to seek Tibet's independence and secession from China. ¶ By People's Daily Online

“The Chinese government will not acknowledge the 1989 Tainanman square massacre of peaceful student protest.” ¶ The Chinese government has said that nobody was actually killed in Tiananmen Square during the student riot and uprising against the Beijing/Chinese government in 1989; they did say that there were student and other casualities in other sections and suburbs of Beijing. Did western media report on the thousand+plus burnt Army vehicles that the rioters torched? [I don't think so.] The western media cannot be trusted to tell the truth about China, current history and past history. That is the reason what the Western media was not allowed into Tibet after the riots of Lhasa. It one of those "Scorpion and the Frog" psychological confrontations, similar to the "Dragon and the Kite" conflict, which keeps everyone at the Daoist Peace Table from smoking from the same peace pipe.

The anti-Chinese sentiments referred to by the group are, as the group sees it, those of Western media, not Chinese media.

There is no doubt that the Chinese people can look to their history and feel great pride in past achievements and in present day accomplishments. They have also know invasion and war and have been the victims of domination from without and from within. Today, like the other modern superpowers they are fast becoming, China is in much need of reforming its governmental policies on Human Rights and Social Justice. This need is clearly evident in China's colonization of Tibet. The Tibet government in exile and the Dalai Lama himself have addressed the need for social and political change in Old Tibet. What country, including Tibet , has not experienced periods in its history needing modernization and social reform? China’s references to past injustices in Old Tibet can in no way justify China's forty-nine years of brutal and repressive policies in Tibet. Today, Tibetans have become a minority population in Lhasa and the vast economic growth experienced in Tibet has primarily benefited the Han Chinese who have been moved into Lhasa under the government's policy of Population Transfer. Anyone who has been to Lhasa in recent years can testify to the tragic reality that China's genocidal policies can take many forms, both obvious or subtle, and that cultural genocide is happening in Tibet right now. However, the lose of any life to violence is a tragedy...those who died during the protests in Lhasa , whatever their ethnic background, were a sister, or a mother, or a son and their families grieve. Yet, without condoning killing, we must not forget the social and political context in which the violence erupted. There has been an ever growing frustration and overwhelming powerlessness felt by Tibetan monks, nuns and laypeople. China’s preparations for the provocative and politically motivated Olympic torch run through Tibet only served to fan the long repressed feelings of anger and hopelessness. Buddhist monks choose the 49 th Anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising to peacefully protest their lack of religious freedom and deplorable conditions. And then, it was as if major earthquake shook all of Tibet.

It is utterly ridiculous for anyone to complain about media coverage of China as being somehow unfairly anti-China, given China's restrictions on journalistic freedom. Period.

I feel sorry for those Chinese students who came from the mainland China. They are still trapped in the Chinese government propaganda machine. Everything on the posters is what Chinese government wants the world to believe and taught to their students. I wish students will use their own logic to understand the Tibetan issues (when they are living and studying in the free country) rather than using the same propaganda materials. The Chinese government will not acknowledge the 1989 Tainanman square massacre of peaceful student protest. What do you aspect from that government? They are using Olympic as a propaganda machine to the world. When Tibetans protest the killings and occupation of their country during the Olympic torch relay, they do not want any politics in Olympic. People of the free nations have a moral right to question the Chinese government policies in Tibet. The Chinese students who are living in this free nation should learn to take criticism of their country. Your country records in human rights and Tibet is well known to the world. No amount of propagandas will change the world public opinions. http://www.phayul.com/news/article.aspx?article=Chinese+Regime+Implicated+in+Staging+Violence+in+Lhasa&id=20039&c=1&t=1

Close, but not quite right Bright. He was paid throught the 60s and early 70s, but after that the CIA realized Tibetian independence wasn't happening so they called it off. That makes...34 years since he received CIA funding.

Speaking not only as a senior monk, but a member of academia, honesty has never been strong point in the pro-Tibetan camp or the within the Tibetan tradition itself. If I had a dime for every deception I have caught both in over the years my piggy bank would be full of bright silver coins, but unlike them, I am not interested in spiritual materialism or traditions which take precidence over historical fact. And when we speak of autonomy let's recognize that for what it is, a prelude to independence.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
The Dalai Lama works for the CIA. Declassified CIA document showed that he has been paid US$186,000 a year since the 60s. Understanding CIA's role is key to the understanding of the entire Tibet saga.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Please read the history of Olympic and Chinese govt. had boycotted most and played politic with sports. Also need to know what Tibetan wants. Not independence but autonomy.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Is that some sort of threat Nur? Fortunately, I reside in a country that allows for dissent (generally) without fear of imprisonment. And sure, the same absolutely applies to arguments for Tibetan autonomy...except most Free Tibeters are more than willing to admit that there were problems in pre-CCP Tibet...so I don't really see where it becomes an issue.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
They are showing ideology not reality ,they believe something and want you believe the same .You are in USA guys not in China, but it is good thing after all ,because you have to come back to China ,where you will be accountable for your actions in here. So ...Good luck
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Sorry, but the same applies to the supporters of Tibetan autonomy. It's kind of funny that none of them want to talk about the abuses that existed before the Dalai Lama and others left in 1959. Is this a game of Monopoly where Tibet is given a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card?

"Olympics, no politics" suggests that China shouldn't be allowed to use the Olympics to promote its better sides either; after all, its modernization is also very much a political topic. Yet I doubt many Chinese would stand for a completely non-political Olympics...it doesn't fit in with nationalists' desires to proclaim how great China has become. Sorry China, but if you want to open yourselves up for praise, you also open yourself up to criticism. There's only one cake...
