P-Safe does not choose what laws they can enforce. I would imagine if they don't enforce those "ridiculous" policies, they may be looking for work. I respect the role they have to play, I am sure it is difficult. I can't imagine being a police officer and having to enforce a keg violation.

obviously for people like you to insinuate that the DP is insensitive, etc and should have thought better of it. p.s. loved that righteous indignation with the double question mark at the end!!

Maybe if the University policies being enforced by Public Safety weren't such a joke, we could take them a little bit more seriously...

Why was this column published on the same day as "Freshman charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault"??

@ Recognizes The Lack Of Humor... "selfless service"? Really, I'm pretty sure they're paid. And it's a job. Could be mistaken though.

Nothing will change because the administration isn't accountable. Their motto should be "There's nothing money can't fix."

Notice how they diabled comments on the kidnapping article. Public Safety is not the "rent-a-cop" joke you have just labeled it. They are a police department that has been chained by the University from doing real police work. I highly doubt the officers are against doing police work, I just think they are restricted. Taking jabs at them as a whole means you probably never dealt with them on an emergency level. They are pretty proficient when it comes to protecting us. Shame on you for reducing their selfless service to a mere bad attempt at satire.

I can't wait for the "Princetonians for a Safer Campus" to jump on this one -- it was a great column though, Ben. Nicely done.

While meant to be satire, I think this article accurately represents the campus sentiment toward Public Safety's job...a joke. If Public Safety was allowed to exercise their police powers, rather than being a cover-up squad for the President and Board, incidents like "Freshman charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault" would be dealt with immediately, rather than waiting for it to boil over into a scandal over University inaction.

Great column Ben! Really love it when you start doing parodies, like with the Obama speech translated to Princeton. A classic.
