Both Public Safety and Princeton Borough Police will bring charges against three non-University-affiliated individuals suspected of causing a violent incident at the Wilson College BlackBox on Friday night, University spokeswoman Cass Cliatt ’96 said in an e-mail.

FYI- Bloods never wear blue. Crips wear blue. Let's get it straight.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Ah I see. Blood always walk around with blue bandanas on. Do you think they have their hands permanently fixed in gang sign position? Perhaps they just throw it up and fixed intervals. Also, any young black male wearing a blue bandana is a Blood? Think about this for a minute.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Mr. Yacht, God forbid one day an incident arises that leads to one of the Public Safety police officers being killed. Maybe then you can comfort their family and explain how they could not protect themselves. These men and women are highly trained and not looking to make this a military based campus. They most likely will never need to use their weapons. I believe that you are the fool in your views on keeping our police safe. But, I guess I understand your logic... I mean, soon other people will want tools for their professions, (journalist-computer, firefighter-hoses). NO ONE knows these buildings better than University Police. You suffer from "head in the sand" syndrome, but that's ok. You are not alone.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
anyone who thinks public safety should have a gun is a fool. the town and borough of princeton already have more cops per capita than just about any municipality in the state of new Jersey. last I checked princeton had one of the lowest crime rates. Princeton public safety is not supposed to be a professional paramiliatary group nor should princeton become a police state. Get real do you really think that the campus is a dangerous place and what do you think public safety having guns will accomplish. I'll tell you what you'll end up with more incidents like Florida where students get tazed, assualted and possibly shot.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
There was not a pack of bloods. Obviously you are trying to start drama or incite something. I'm not sure what your agenda is but you are being ridiculous. And that picture is ridiculous too.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
For the comment below, here is what you can expect a blood to look like. http://steelturman.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/gang_bangers.JPG
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Your comments suggest that you could identify a Blood on sight. Tell me, have you seen one before, or are you working off some stereotype?
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Obviously, not everyone on campus walks around in pastel clothes with little animals on them, but I've yet to see a Princeton student who could possibly pass for a Blood, even in the dim, flashing lights. That a PACK of Bloods made it into BlackBox and went around for a good while harassing people is definitely a sign of negligence.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
"Brittney, why were they allowed in in the first place? They weren't students or pre-frosh; was there just no ID checking of any sort going on?" I'm obviously not Brittney Winters, but as someone who attended April Hosting last spring (and went to a few pre-frosh parties on the Street), my guess is that the Blackbox staff checked IDs earlier in the night only to realize that such a task could be somewhat futile given the sheer number of current students and pre-frosh attending. Not that this justifies what happened, but it could be a possible explanation.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Facebook: Princetonians for a Safer Campus. I think it's abundantly obvious that Princeton University CAMPUS has a gang problem. Let our brave officers protect us. Good work catching the criminals, PSafety!
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Re: Re: Miked: Those who wear plaid, patterns of little animals, pastels, and the like.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
What exactly does the "normal Princeton undergraduate" look like? Are we to assume anyone who doesn't look like this is dangerous?
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
gee, I aimagine this miscreants look just like the normal Princeton undergraduate. Keep these scum off the campus in the first place. They have no right to be there, make it known to them by any means necesssary that they will not be welcome on the grounds, period. They don't deserve to breathe the air normal citizens do.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
well...you are a fool. Over a 1000 people passed through the prev one, and this one was more packed it seemed. Obviously not every person on campus has to enjoy an event for it to be worthwhile, and you def don't. So why don't you just go w/e you do, and see if you can maybe think beyond yourself for once in your life.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Why do we even have blackbox? Seems like a complete waste
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Brittney, why were they allowed in in the first place? They weren't students or pre-frosh; was there just no ID checking of any sort going on? I know there has to be something of a rational explanation here beyond what's in the Prince article.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
And yet again, the Prince misquotes or takes someone's comments out of context. The context that I stated that partygoers should have contacted BlackBox staff was referring to the harassment throughout the night. And yes, these fools were equal-opportunity with the harassment and many were affected. However, the people that I know you're referring to as BlackBox team members were not officers responsible for your welfare. If I, Dexter Doyle, or Shekida Smith had been informed, more importantly, since I can't speak for anyone but myself, IF I HAD BEEN INFORMED, those fools would have been out on their ass long before a punch could have been thrown. Tell you what. Next time, you find someone who actually has a responsibility for your welfare. Come look for me. I'll be there, in a BlackBox shirt.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
You know what else is abundantly clear. Blood gang members are on campus, Blood Gang members are assaulting students, the Police Officers charged with confronting these violent gang members are not properly equipped for the job. What level of violence, what tragedy, will it take for the University to realize that having unarmed Police Officers is ignorance and naivety at it's worst.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
I think it's abundantly clear from this article that Public Safety made the arrests even without a sentence flat out saying "Public Safety officers made the arrests." If there was a sentence like that in this article, commenters would probably deride it as asinine, obvious, unprofessional or something else. This goes not only for people who post here but for all kinds of internet comments: think and read before you comment!
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
The fact that Public Safety made the arrests is not mentioned in the article.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
The article does mention most of this. Furthermore the Public Safety account of the event is published in a different section. It is not the job of the article to take a stance on the issue of arming Public Safety officers. The woman also faulted Public Safety, saying that officers “arrived a while after the incident had occurred.” Public Safety Deputy Director Charles Davall said six officers responded to the call as quickly as possible. They arrived on the scene within two minutes of receiving the call and saw what seemed to be a disturbance, he explained. Three people, who officers assumed were the suspects, took off running. “The officers were involved with a footchase,” he said, adding that another officer, who had been on a different assignment, arrived on the scene within 10 minutes of the call. Public Safety’s response met the department’s expectations for response time, Cliatt said.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
This is very irresponsible reporting by the Princetonian. There is no mention in this article of the fact that Public Safety Police Officers were the ones who made the arrests after this incident occurred. The Facts: Public Safety Officers arrived on scene within two minutes of receiving the call. Public safety Officers identified the suspects, chased them down, and arrested them. Public Safety Officers did not know whether or not these confirmed gang members were armed. Despite this unknown, and despite being unarmed themselves, those fine officers chased these criminals down and arrested them. You want to be naive in your Princeton Bubble go ahead, but give credit where credit is due.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Public Safety couldn't have handled this situation any better. They're not psychics, they can only respond to situations when they're called. When they were called, they were at the Black Box in under two minutes flat. I find the fact that Public Safety officers pursued violent offenders without proper weapons highly admirable in terms of the officers' commitment to their mission, but also a sad reflection on the current state of campus security. Get these guys the equipment they need to do their jobs and that they would have anywhere else in America, and indeed anywhere else in the Ivy League.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
A long explanatory e-mail should be sent to the prospective members of the Class of 2012. Its one thing to rationalize the perceived elitism of the eating clubs, but god help us if the kiddies get the idea that the rest of the campus is overrun with random gang warfare!
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Two minutes is pretty damned fast. Unless PS is posted on location, I don't know how much faster it can get.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
First, let me say that I'm not opposed to arming sworn PSafe officers. However, I would say that this event indicates that before we give PSafe guns, the organization really must get its act together. Perhaps this speaks to the Prince's reporting style, but the info presented on this case really makes Psafe look like a bunch of bumblers. I would cite the growing problem of hard drugs at princeton, the annual break-ins at the old Butler college and Ellipse dormitories, the multiple sexual assaults and now this as evidence that before we consider arming them, they need to learn to professionally and effectively handle the types of crimes that COMMONLY occur at a suburban, upper class university. Yes, VATech could happen again, and there are violent gangs in Princeton Borough, but there are so many other problems on campus that just don't seem to be addressed. It doesn't seem as though guns would have made PSafe arrive on the scene any quicker.... does it?
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
This incident absolutely strengthens the argument for arming public safety. There's not some magical barrier separating Princeton from the rest of the world. There is a gang problem in the community, and that gang problem WILL spill over onto the Princeton campus, as it did at the Black Box last Friday. If we're going to ask Public Safety to protect us from violent criminals like these, the least we can is give officers access to the same equipment that police officers in any other jurisdiction in America would have.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
It is not Public Safety's job to crack down on gangs in the surrounding community. That's the Borough's job. There are a number arguments to be made for arming Public Safety; this is not one of them.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
We have a police department who can protect and crack down on gangs. You just choose not to arm them. A cop without a gun stands no chance against a blood member. God help us all.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Right, because I'm sure blood members take time at their breakfast table and peruse through a copy of the Daily Princetonian... The administration and Borough Police need to crack down on gang activity in Princeton. The Borough Police, especially, have to get their priorities straightened: hmm harmless Princeton students who sometimes like to have a couple beers on the Street, or armed and dangerous members of one of America's most notorious gangs?
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Will Scharf for President. Get it done Will.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
and I am sure you were groped or harassed by them as well...they didnt miss anyone on the dance floor, including blackbox adminstrative Females....
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
"“If partygoers were so concerned about these people at this party, why did they not inform either Safeguards or a BlackBox staff member?” she said." ummmmmm right, def not the case
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Between this crew of Bloods and the MS-13 drug dealing set in town, does anyone still doubt the need to arm Public Safety officers? In this case we have PUPS officers chasing down violent criminals affiliated with one of the most feared gangs in the United States on foot with nothing more than nightsticks. It's an outrage.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Don't start on the invited front. The first BlackBox was well advertised, Daily Prince had written an article about how it got over 1000 people. There were many prefrosh who came to the first one who live in the Princetin area. The prefrosh go back to their high schools and talk about the party. People start talking and word spreads about this party. In the high schools around the area, you know you have people who are gang-affiliated so don't start thinking they were personally invited.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Bloods members don't just randomly show up to random parties in the basement of Wilson. They are invited. I wonder who would invite them???
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
Since this is the second incident over the past several months involving this gang that I'm aware of, then this would be something that clearly should not be taken lightly. With the knowledge that this gang has a local presence, precautions should already have been in place. If they're not already doing so, the administration needs to be clear with the borough police that continual pressure needs to be applied to this group. We might not be so fortunate with the next incident.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
wow... blood members??? let's not let princeton turn into a penn.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
