Letter to the Editor: April 4, 2008

Regarding ‘Glitz and Ghosts in the Library,' (Monday, March 3, 2008):

I may not share Professor Anthony Grafton's ability to spin the English language quite so artfully, but as a senior deep in the fiery depths of, well, "Quintessentially Princeton," I can suggest one quick and easy change to the venerated Firestone Library. It will cost about $100 and take one University employee one hour to implement: Add extension cords and power strips throughout the reserve reading room. If the Reserve Room is the only area open after 11:45 p.m., why is 95 percent of it useless to someone working on limited laptop battery power?

While it'd be fantastic if students actually used the Labyrynthian mess of faux-carrels to read the printed word, the perfect shouldn't be the enemy of the good. Help seniors (and juniors, soon) out: Bring electricity to every corner of the room. It's the very least they can do.
