Regarding ‘University revises RCA alcohol guidelines,' (Friday, March 28, 2008):

The article about the University's RCA policy was wholly accurate and well reflected the positive student-administration interaction. Students should know, however, that the ...(back to the article)

hey guys. i see how people on both sides of this debate think that common sense supports their position. but, i'm just wondering why this is something to get your knickers in a twist about. i mean, yea, there have been school shootings and whatnote. but in most cases, crazy people get a lot of harm done before police can get there and whip out their guns. i just don't see why this debate is even something to be that concerned with and it seems to me to jsut be a silly excuse for liberals and conservatives to have something to battle over.

What's the point of having sworn police officers if they're fully equipped to act as police officers? We might as well just go back to having proctors or private security guards. I for one would rather have a cop with a badge and a gun protecting this campus than people of the calibre of the dude who mans the guard-booth on Elm.

I agree with P09. I can see no downside to arming trained Public Safety Officers. I would do nothing to decrease our security or our sense of safety on campus, and everything to increase both of those things.

Nic Poulos doesn't realize that no one wants to give public safety AK47s. It's not a police state, it's not an occupation force, it's the officers who are bound by their duty to protect Princeton students. There is simply no downside to having those who are supposed to protect us properly equipped

"The point is, we're not supposed to enable underage drinking at all, and I speak for the ICC when I say that we don't." Are you kidding me, Tower Club? As a member of tower, (really, as a member of any club knows) Tower goes a long way towards enabling underage drinking. Of course, no money is spent on alcohol on towers record books. Instead, every member (including new sophomores, regardless of age) contributes $250 cash under the table--the alcohol chair sits on about $40,000-$60,000 cash--known as "milk money" used to fund primarily alcohol (and, the officers claim, some other miscellaneous things around the club). They then purchase alcohol in cash--leaving no trace in tower club's books. Its actually a pretty clever system. Every member is entitled to and served this alcohol, again regardless of age. I drank at tower freely for a year and a half before turning 21. In fact, following tower's tradition, I chugged a beer in front of the whole club on my 20th birthday. No I won't testify against my club, but I won't allow my club to openly lie either.

if that's the case, then all of the club presidents are liars. why don't you all just stop talking about underage drinking, and just stick to what you know is true: you govern private institutions that the borough has no right to enter and search without probable cause. yes, you serve minors. but so do my parents at dinnertime when they offer me a glass of wine.

Steph Burset does not stand alone. This letter was read, edited, and approved by the entire ICC. Steph's letter accurately reflects the opinion of all of the club presidents.

"throwing stones at the borough"? Leave it to Tower to have a president who does not stand fully with her fellow ICC members. If anything, stones were thrown at the students when Scharf was taken advtantage of. The last time I was in Tower there were mostly freshmen drinking, which leads me to believe that they perhaps enable underage drinking.

Yep, I agree. Steph Burset is a great person but I'm not sure who she's trying to fool with that comment.

Either Stephanie is blind or she's a liar: "The point is, we're not supposed to enable underage drinking at all, and I speak for the ICC when I say that we don't." Now, I'm not saying I'm opposed to eating clubs serving alcohol. In fact, I took advantage of them when I was underage. But just don't lie through your teeth about it, Stephanie.
