Princeton took a big step to address its role in combating global warming by announcing a sustainability plan that matches New Jersey's emissions reduction target of 1990 levels by 2020. But is compliance with New Jersey law good enough? No. ...(back to the article)

To the Princetonian readership, Please realize that a Princeton wind farm would almost certainly not be located in Princeton. Two New Jersey counties, far from Mercer, that offer land for wind farm use are Passaic and Sussex. These are counties home to large rural areas that have average winds of 5-7 m/s - plenty of wind to power a 1.5 MW windmill. The name Princeton would imply ownership rather than location. While somewhat of an expensive short run investment, a present discounted value analysis will show that a wind farm pays for itself well in the long run. Assuming that hydrocarbon prices continue to rise, a wind farm will be even more of a sound investment. While "green" may indeed sound faddish or gimmicky, it is really just prudent and responsible. A Princeton wind farm need no necessarily be right on campus - there are several locations in New Jersey (including near the Princeton-Blairstown center) and off the coast that have sufficient wind for a wind farm. If Princeton builds it and owns the energy generated, it can track every dollar and every ton of CO2 emissions saved, with none of the worry of carbon credits, and with all the opportunities for student education and engagement and true leadership on climate change in terms of campus efforts, to go beyond our existing leadership in research.

Haha! Great April Fool's article. "Green" is totally this decade's "extreme". I love it. The more green something is, the more awesome it is.
