History buffs will recall the story of the Hatfields and McCoys. These were the American South's version of the Capulets and Montagues, two families that feuded for generations until neither had any idea how the feud began. The town of ...(back to the article)

'10, I think you miss the point of the column. If you feel that underage drinking laws are "silly," that's a different issue. Also, this isn't even about who deserves to be sued or arrested/fined. Rather, the punchline of the joke is that no one is fairly discussing any of these substantial issues because everyone is too busy building a wall between town and gown and shouting "no fair!". Why not approach this situation like educated, Ivy League-trained academics? No, it's probably better to complain that the local government which runs the municipality in which you live is holding your private clubs to too high a standard (read: laws).

Personally, I don't like the eating clubs in theory or in practice so I say this without any particular bias: The borough is being a bit absurd here. Ok so the law says 21, and everyone knows that the eating clubs are not as strict as Triumph :), but really so what? Do these people really have nothing else to do but fret over silly laws. If the clubs were extremely loud and around other houses- fine they'd have a point. If students had to trespass through the borough drunkenly to and fro to get there- fine they'd have a point. But as it is, it is the janitors in our dorms and the long suffering employees at Frist who must put up with us, not the residents of the borough. Yes, some Princeton students are self-obsessed, "entitled," but so are some townies. Many of us are very nice, so are some townies. It's a very childish game that's being played here and frankly, I'm not entirely sure why. When the town provides a bar that will serve all undergraduates in a non-elitist environment, then we will talk about taxes and privilege.

yeah, but about those "coordinated efforts" at "cooperation" you're proposing, which ICC President did the most in recent memory to build bridges with the Borough on the issue of drinking? Oh, that's right...
