The Borough is pathetic. Princeton has the safest drinking environment of any real university in the country. And yet a bunch of nosy neighbors who managed to get their names on a ballot in a town of 14,000 people try to dictate policy to the best university in the world. The University should bring the full weight of its resources to bear on the Borough Council - stop harassing students.
It would take one phone call from Shirley Tilghman. "Stop harassing my students or we're not paying our voluntary contribution to the Borough next year." She would be a hero.
when the clubs were all male there was never adrinking problem
I hate it when the borough builds sidewalks over peoples' hedges. Shame on them.
I think the fact is that the relationship between the Borough Council and the club presidents has been improving drastically as the club members take more steps to prevent dangerous drinking, including wristbands and safety patrol.
The disagreements between the clubs and the council is still present and noteworthy, but, as this article conveys, Council members have become a lot more positive about the clubs.
See this paragraph, for instance. This would have never happened 10 years ago:
Council members praised the club presidents for their efforts and progress. “I have never seen a group of leaders as outstanding as this before,” Karcher said, adding that she thinks Scharf will have a future as a lawyer despite his current setbacks.
Or corner house being so positive:
Gary De Blasio, the director of Corner House, a young adult counseling center in Princeton Township, lauded increased efforts by the eating clubs to reach out to the community over the past year.
all we have to do is to get a bourough council son or daughter accepted to princeton and join an eating club and we will be hassle free!
