To say that this guy seems like an asshole is wrong; I am sure he is writing this with only goodness in his heart. I do agree, though, that it is poorly written and not worthy of an Ivy League campus publication. Some tips: In order to employ the "comedy of referent", your audience must understand the REFERENT. All of your mention of bungalows and drinking out of shoes is rendered meaningless to an audience who has not been to Oxford. This isnt a diary. 2) What does acceptance into an eating club have to do with "My Super Sweet 16"? At best, I vaguely understand the sentiment, but if you are trying to make a specific comment about our culture of superficiality and materialism, you cannot just smush all of these ideas into a wad of rant. The author seems like a nice, thoughtful guy so ease up on the negativity, but this seems like more of a brainstorm than an article. Maybe he pressed send on his blackberry by accident and sent the rough draft.

This article is horrible. Johann had the opportunity for providing some insight into the differences between two of the great academic institutions, and instead, he writes in sloppy rhetoric about over-debated Princeton sterotypes, his own toolishness, and a short dismissal of the tutorial system. I thought philosophy majors were supposed to be CLEAR writers? Moreover, this kid just seems like an asshole.
