"C’mon. Give us the juice,” beckons juicycampus.com, a website that allows anyone with access to the internet to anonymously post comments about other people. The website expanded to Princeton three weeks ago and has been stirring up controversy ever since.

The man who wrote this is is a DISGRACE TO MANKIND. He is a pathetic peice of shit who is paid to destroy the lives of college students who are the FUTURE of our country. He makes his living out of exploitation of other's personal lives. I know of 2 multimillion dollar lawsuits that are being formulated against Juicy Campus. Hopefully that will be enough to shut down this disgusting monster of a man.

To Not so Duh-- I understand what you mean-- college kids are inherently catty, particularly at any top tier school. However, if you look at the stats and the messages posted, Princetonians seem to really love this site more than students of other schools. It's not surprising when you look at Princeton's social culture-- it's pretty much based on the notion that 'coolness' is a zero sum game (ie to improve my status I must bring someone else down). In Princeton's social schema, the path to cool is to keep others out. Look at any eating club-- their status is solely based on how many people they hose. For example, take an up and coming club like Tower. A few years ago, they were well below their member quota. Now that they have lots of people vying for membership, they are trying to make themselves into Ivy for nerds. If juicycampus didn't exist, Princetonians would just find another way to spread gossip about each other. Lies and rumors have been around forever.
Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down!
To Doh: The website has been given to 60 other campuses, and they have had their own problems with the4 site. Its not a problem with Princeton.

<<When asked about the possible dangers of the site, Ivester admitted that “there are risks of cyber bullying,” but added, “I don’t think JuicyCampus causes those effects. We don’t encourage lies to be posted on our website in any regard.”>> I think Ivestor has a crucial flaw in thinking that is apparent in this quote. It's not as if it's always a lie that causes huge emotional breakdowns; sometimes it's the truth. Even if truthful gossip was the sole gossip posted, it still could be volatile in individual lives. The bigger question is what to do about something that easily could lead to volatility. I do like Dean Dunne's suggestion to change the conversations. Weaken the site's negative tone until it simply caters to those who want to see Princetonians having better conversations. Easier said than done, I realize; but if you're going to go on and check the gossip, at least post something that changes the average mindlessness or challenges it simply by voicing your real reaction to it. I do believe that for most of us it's disappointment.

I hate to break it to you, but the problem is not juicycampus, it's Princeton... For some reason, people at our school really just seem to hate each other. If you've ever been to a bicker discussion, you'll realize that the comments made on juicycampus just aren't that unusual. Blocking a silly website won't change decades of elitism and exclusion.
