Am I the only one who finds it odd that Whitman College, the object of Nancy Malkiel's eye for two decades, is the result of years of planning, hours of committee meetings, surveys, etc. And "surprise," after only one year of operation, it is decreed that more room needs to be made for upperclass students who wish to be part of the Whitman family. Where were the independent or upper class rooms, with limited meal contracts, in all that planning? Where were the suites with kitchens? Where were apartments for students who might actually want to revisit the Five Star College but not actually take their meals there each and every day. Or worry about Alcohol Police if they invite a fellow collegian in to watch a game. Perhaps the real answer is that the plan was always to acquire parts (or all) of Spelman [see Domino Theory]. Maybe if they acquire Stephens Fitness Room nd Dillon Pool for Whitman too, they can get even more upperclassmen to spurn the evils of The Street and draw more students to the ranch.
